- Effects of Children on Marital Stability:Case of Korean Women

Using the Korean Longitudinal Survey of Women and Families,
this study investigates the effects of the number of children on
marital stability. In particular, we implement the fixed effects panel
data model to control for possible endogeneity arising from fertility
decision. The main empirical results reveal that the number of
children deter the dissolution of marriage. In particular, an increase
in the number of children by one was found to reduce the
likelihood of divorce by 1 percentage points. Further, it is shown
that the number of children is likely to affect marital stability much
less for those who are socio-economically advantageous.
- 본 연구는 여성 가족 패널자료를 이용하여 자녀의 수가 우리나라 여성의
이혼에 미치는 영향을 분석한다. 특히 자녀를 가질 것인가의 결정에 존재하는
내생성을 통제하기 위하여 고정효과 패널데이터 모형을 방법론으로 채택한다.
주요 분석 결과를 통해 볼 때 자녀의 수가 결혼생활의 안정성을 증가시키는
것을 알 수 있다. 특히, 다른 변수를 통제할 때 자녀의 수가 한 명 늘어나면
이혼확률은 약 1% 포인트가 감소하는 것으로 나타난다. 더 나아가 사회경제
적으로 상대적으로 우위에 있는 사람들에게 자녀 수의 효과의 크기는 그렇지
않은 사람들에 비해 크지 않은 것으로 나타난다.

- Communication and Delegation in Social Networks

This paper compares communication and delegation in social
networks and provides topics for future studies. I start by
reviewing previous studies on information transmission in social
networks and those on delegative democracy (also known as liquid
democracy). I consider a situation in which communication and
delegation result in the same outcomes and discuss how they may
differ when the assumptions are relaxed.
- 사람은 다른 사람들과의 관계망(network) 속에서 살아간다. 이 논문은
관계망을 통한 정보 전파와 위임을 비교하며 기존의 연구에 암묵적으로 깔
려있는 가정들을 드러낸다. 특히 (i) 관계망으로 연결된 투표자들 간에 이
해관계의 갈등이 어떻게 분포하는지, (ii) 정보가 외생적으로 주어지는지
아니면 정보 습득 노력이 필요한지, (iii) 개별 정보가 얼마나 확실한지,
(iv) 관계망의 구조는 어떠한지에 따라 정보 전파와 위임이 어떻게 다른
결과를 낳는지 논의한다. 그리고 향후 연구가 필요한 주제들을 제시한다.
